Cora Sue Johnson Barkley was born November 27, 1934 in Finchburg, AL to the late Andy (Shug) Johnson and Sally Shoots Johnson.
Cora Johnson Barkley accepted Christ at an early age at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Finchburgh, AL and later united with the Bethel Baptist Church #2 in Monroeville, AL where she was an active member. Her love for God, the church and community never failed. She was a devoted choir member; worked with the Culinary Ministry, a missionary and many other auxiliaries of the church. A part of her Mission was serving the church and the community with her love for cooking by going from door to door delivering food. As a part of the Retired Senior and Volunteer Program (RSVP) she went through the community registering individuals to vote and doing whatever was needed for the Community. She received her Bachelor of Religious Education Degree on May 20, 1983.
She also spent her time doing things she loved like working with the Carmichael Catering Service when she wasn’t cooking for her family, fishing, crocheting, quilting and working in her gardening (flowers).
She is preceded in death by her parents: Andy and Sally Johnson, her sons: Albert Taylor, John Johnson, Jeffery Taylor; son-in-law: William Bryant, Jr.; daughter: Angela Michelle Barkley; grandson: Darren Bryant; granddaughter: Deondra Spencer; great granddaughter: Shikeshia Bryant; a bonus grandson: Frankie Banks; her siblings: James Johnson, Robert Johnson, Leslie Johnson, Sallie Tucker, Beulah and Henry Johnson.
Cora Johnson Barkley leaves to cherish her memories eight children, sons: Terry (Regina) Johnson and Terry Tyrone Taylor both of Monroeville, AL; daughters: Barbara Bryant and Donna Hixon both of Monroeville, AL, Patricia Barkley McCullough of Atlanta, GA, Ella Johnson of Orlando, FL, Ophelia Taylor Howard and Mekeshia (Jason) Clark both of Tampa, FL; a host of grands, great-grands, great-great grands, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
