Mary Johnson

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Mary Lee Johnson of Frisco City, Alabama, who passed away peacefully on 5/17 at the age of 70. Born on 11/03/1955 in Frisco City, Alabama, she was the daughter of Josephine Kate Tyes and Robert Lee Frye. 

She worked as a phlebotomist and a nursing assistant  at Glengariff Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center for over 20 years before retiring in 1999. 

Mary Lee was known for having a big heart and giving love, care, and attention to those in need at all times. Mary loved to bring people together and provide joy, laughter, and food for everyone. Mary enjoyed cooking, taking care of her family, singing with the Lily Baptist Choir and Traveling All Stars. She was a dedicated member of the Lily Baptist church and The Traveling All Stars since 1999. 

Mary Lee is survived by 3 siblings, Marion Frye, of Frisco City, AL; Nathaniel (Mary) Frye of Monroeville, AL; Gloria Garland of Flint, MI; 4 children, Asheka (Melvin) Witten of Frisco City, AL; Dashia (Michael) Chapman of Athens, AL; Ephraim Christopher Johnson of Portland, OR; and Shanee (Reginald) Bonner of Millbrook, AL. 14 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband Errol Johnson, mother Josephine (Clemie) Tyes, father Robert Lee Frye, brother Nathan Smith, brother Wendell Frye, brother Charles Frye, sister Margaret Stallworth, and grandson Gabriel Witten.

A celebration of Mary’s life will be held on May 30th at 11 a.m. at Lily Baptist Church located at 114 Lilly Church Rd., Frisco City, AL 36445. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Jones Unity Funeral Home, 866 W Claiborne St., Monroeville, AL 36460 (251) 575-3191
